The Only Way Out Is THRU, no. 1, hand-dyed and salvaged fabrics, hand-pieced & hand-quilted, with fabric sleeve for wall mounting/hanging; 2020; 40”w x 49”h

The fabric constructions and quilts in this series started out as little improvisations - hand pieced scraps, usually featuring a small indigo-dyed “eclipse” circle in the middle - that I continued to add to and build out over time. Eclipses are ominous events, shadow times. The sun is blocked out, the quality of light is unfamiliar, the moon appears stained with blood. It’s an uneasy time. But then it passes. We move on. It will happen again sometime.
